Day of Departure It is best to be on campus close to 7 AM in order to verify that all paperwork is accurate and accounted for Student temperatures are also taken at this time We will leave Costa Mesa around 8:15 AM Travel time from Davis is about three hours The camp is located near Big Bear Angelus Oaks, CA Elevation circa 6,750 feet

Sleeping Quarters: Students will be lodging in dormitory style cabins. Cabins are divided by gender There will be about 8-12 cabins, 10-12 students per cabin on average Each cabin is administered by one or two counselors who remain in the cabin for the evening There are external bath facilities near the cabins The camp has a centrally located Dining Facility where all students gather for meals Camp Nawakwa: Amenities

Students are subdivided into co-ed instructional groups Each group has the same counselor for the duration of the stay at the camp There are two basic categories of activity: Instructional – Learning about Science based topics, e.g. Mountain Formation and Geology, Biosphere Sports/Challenges, e.g. Archery, Rock Wall Climbing Camp Nawakwa: Activities

Students will need to bring clothes for four days in the mountains including both warm and cool weather attire – There may be snow this year! Shoes should be suitable for hiking which they will do frequently All toiletries necessary for the four days including chapstick Sleeping Bags and pillows Any important medication Cameras are recommended: Disposable preferred NO CELL PHONES! Preparation

The camp will ask us in advance if there are any specific health or dietary concerns for students that will be attending. They have trained staff capable of handling most medical issues. The menu factors for common food allergies and there are vegetarian options Allergies must be medically recognized and known before going to camp The camp cannot accommodate finicky preferences Dietary & Medical

The cost of the camp is a combination of the fees charged by High Trails as well as the cost of transportation via bus from Costa Mesa. We anticipate that the total cost will be approximately $275 per student for four days. Payment Information - We ask that payment be made by Monday, March 1. If using a check, make checks payable to N-MUSD. Payments can be made in installments, please discuss with Mrs. Flores or office personnel. Camp Costs
