American Neutrality? ● Cash-and-Carry, 1939: allowed warring nations to buy U.S. weapons as long as they paid cash for them & transported the weapons themselves ● Selective Training & Service Act, 1940 (Burke-Wadsworth): U.S.’ 1 st peacetime draft, 16 mill. registered, 1 mill. drafted ● Lend-Lease Act (1941): lend or lease weapons & supplies to “any country whose defense was vital to the U.S.” ● Atlantic Charter (1941): FDR & Churchill meet to discuss post-war Europe ● FDR’s Four Freedoms Speech (1941): 1. Freedom of Speech 2. Freedom of worship 3. Freedom from want 4. Freedom from fear
