Graduation Requirements In order to graduate, you need credit in the following areas: 4 Math Credits 4 Language Arts Credits 3 Social Studies Credits* 4 Science Credits 8 Elective Credits ◦ ½ credit of Health Required ◦ ½ credit of Personal Fitness Required Total – 23 credits* *For DCSS, Social Studies counts for 4 credits (Govt, US, World, Econ). For 24 total credits instead of 23.

Ga High School Testing Requirements Even though the graduation tests have been phased out, you are still required to take AND pass the Ga High School Writing Test. This test is given during your JUNIOR year in September and then again in February.

Courses with an EOCT The following courses have an EOCT: 9 th Grade LiteratureAmerican Literature Coordinate AlgebraAnalytic Geometry BiologyPhysical Science EconomicsUS History EOCT’s currently count for 20% of a student’s final grade

Selecting Courses This year, your teachers have selected your core courses based on your class performance: ◦ Language Arts ◦ Math ◦ Science ◦ Social Studies ◦ Foreign Languages Elective Teachers have also selected your 2 nd or 3 rd level courses, as appropriate. At your registration conference, you and your parents will/may choose: ◦ 4 Electives (may include World Language) ◦ 4 Alternate electives

Selecting Courses At your registration conference tonight, you and your parents will/may choose: ◦ 4 Electives (may include World Language) ◦ 4 Alternate electives In order to make changes to your teacher’s recommendations, your parent must sign a NMHS Course Waiver form.

Honors and AP Courses You may have been recommended for Honors or AP courses by your teachers. If you choose to register for these courses, summer reading and/or summer assignments WILL be required. Once your requests are done and submitted, you cannot drop the course. AP courses are COLLEGE LEVEL courses. Choose wisely!

Science *Biology, a Physical Science (Physics), and one of the following : Chemistry, Environmental or Earth Systems are required for graduation (See Grad Requirements Chart)

World Languages *2 HS years of the same language are required for college

CTAE *Must choose a pathway and complete three courses to be a pathway completer

Credit Recovery Information about Summer Credit Recovery will be available in May. This is the only option where recovering credit is a guarantee. E2020 Credit Recovery is not a guarantee. Please do not select your classes counting on this as being part of your courseload.

Work Based Learning If you are interested in signing up for Work Based Learning, please see Mrs. Westbrook in A2100. Work Based Learning allows students to earn CTAE credit for an off-campus job or internship. You must get approval from Mrs. Westbrook in order to be enrolled in the class. You also need a job and your own transportation.

College and Career Institute (CCI) If you are considering CCI for your Junior or Senior year, please keep in mind that you must have 4 open periods to accommodate the CCI schedule. If you know your area of interest for the CCI, consider taking the introductory CTAE course as an elective next year. (ex. if you are interested in the Patient Care or Dental Assisting Program, consider taking Intro to Healthcare here).

College and Career Institute (CCI) See Ms. Morris in the Career Center ASAP if you are interested and have not been tested. Students who have already been accepted to the CCI will have electives entered into IC when you login.
