Anxiety Disorders & Phobic Disorders Ashley Chapa 10/13/09 P.1
2
What is your section about? My section of the book is about Anxiety Disorders and Phobic disorders. Anxiety disorders are fears that don’t have and identifiable source or fear caused by a danger that no longer exists. Phobic disorders are disorders like anxiety but focused on one specific thing.
3
What is the main idea? The most important concept is that almost everyone experiences anxiety. Everyone will experience it and it is uncontrollable. Also to show that Phobic disorders and anxiety disorders are much alike. A phobic disorder is like anxiety just focused on one thing.
4
Details, Examples, how does it relate to the topic? One of the many signs of anxiety is fear without knowing. You can be having a panic attack due to anxiety and not even realize you were scared of it in the first place. Anyone can have anxiety weather it is about forgetting to lock the doors or worried about someone. This relates to the class because a lot of the people in the class will experience it sometime and some may have phobic or anxiety disorders. Also you can have a phobic disorder of something that isn't even there it might not even exist but you are still scared of it.
5
Give and example or real life story. Many people are phobic but the most common one I have seen is arachnophobia. Arachnophobia is the fear of spiders. My grandma has a phobia about spiders and one day I heard her yell my name from across the house. I went upstairs thinking she needed something. What I didn’t realize was that there was the biggest spider on the door where I was standing and she was yelling and I was trying to ask what was wrong but she wouldn’t let me get a word in until I realized there was a spider. The spider made her so scared that she couldn’t even touch the door. A lot of peoples phobic disorders have more control over them then they have over themselves.
6
Give your opinion and the key points. I think that this is a very interesting topic because so many people experience it. It may seem uncommon but almost everyone is scared of something it might not be so extreme that they consider it a phobia but I believe everyone will experience it sometime. I would like the class to remember that if someone has a phobic disorder they cant control it they can try to get over it and it may be extremely difficult to get over.
7
What was your section about? My section was about the similarities between anxiety and phobias, and what they are. Also nothing is wrong with you if you have one of these disorders there is nothing wrong with you it is just something you are scared of.
