This is usually the first step of the EDP. What is the problem? What are the project requirements? What are the limitations? Gather information and conduct research.
3
Key EDP Cards from first activity: Examine existing products Write down your ideas Identify limitations
4
Imagine and brainstorm ideas. Be creative; build upon the wild and crazy ideas of others. The ideas can be sketched and/or written. Explore, compare and analyze many possible solutions.
5
Key EDP Cards from first activity: Write notes about your ideas Make sketches Brainstorm for ideas
6
Based on the needs identified, select the most promising idea. How will it work? What environmental and cultural considerations will you evaluate? What materials and tools are needed? Draw a final sketch of your idea.
7
Key EDP Cards from first activity: Establish a scale Make a scale drawing Get tools and materials Build a prototype
8
Build a prototype and test it against your design objectives. Does the new product work as intended. Talk about what works, what doesn’t and what could work better.
9
Key EDP Cards from first activity: Test the product Ask people if they like the product Analyze survey data Redesign the product if necessary
10
This is the final step in the EDP. If your initial design doesn't fully solve the problem or meet the challenge, go back and repeat the above steps. Give a short presentation /demonstration to the class about their product.
11
Key EDP Cards from first activity: Apply for a patent Make a commercial Sell the new product Analyze profit/loss results
