2/2/20059Introduction to Banner Getting Around in Banner – Naming Conventions Position 1:Identifies the primary system owning the form, report, process or table. In the example below, the S denotes the Student system. Position 2:Identifies the application module owning the form, report, process or table. Position 3:Identifies the type of form. Positions 4-7:Identifies a unique four-character name for the form. SPAIDEN 1234567 Position 1:S – Student system Position 2:P – Person application module Position 3:A – Application form Positions 4-7:IDEN – mnemonic indicating the form deals with identity of the person All Banner forms, reports, tables and processes are seven characters long and have the following structure: For a complete discussion of naming conventions including a matrix describing the values of each position, please see your Intro to Banner Training document.

2/2/200511Introduction to Banner Searching in Forms-The Search Button Click the “ Search” button The search dialog box appears, and allows the user to select the type of search to conduct. If the SSN was known, an alternate ID search could be performed, otherwise, do a name search.

Wild characters can be used (%, or _) to conduct search. Enter the text to be searched for and execute the search by typing “F8” or go to the Query Menu and select “Execute” command or by pressing the “Execute Query” button

2/2/200514Introduction to Banner Searching in Forms-The Advanced Search From this page, you can tab over to the Name block, type a name, enter a couple letters and the wildcard symbol “%”, and then hit Enter to conduct an extended search. After hitting Enter, the Advanced Search screen is displayed

2/2/200515Introduction to Banner Object Searching-Searching Across all Banner elements From the Main Menu, you can call up “Object Search” by double clicking in the “Go:” box, clicking the “Search” button, or by choosing “Object Search” under the File menu

2/2/200516Introduction to Banner Object Searching-Searching Across all Banner elements Type search string in the Object Name or Description field. Remember to use “%” as a wildcard to make searches more effective. Execute the Query to begin the search (Press F8). Select the desired object and click the Start button. The requested object will be displayed. When searching for an object, keep in mind the naming conventions located earlier in this document.
