6-11 years old: 18.8% obese in 2004 6.5% obese in 1980 Obesity among children can cause low self-esteem and health risk.

Family may have poor eating habits

6 Statistics children (6 -11 y/o): approximately 30.3% overweight
15.3% obese. adolescents ( y/o): 30.4% overweight 15.5% obese. Excess weight in childhood and adolescence predicts overweight in adults. Overweight children, (10 – 14 y/o), with at least one overweight or obese parent were reported to have a 79 percent likelihood of overweight persisting into adulthood.
