3 Enhanced Force Protection Capabilities
CAF MNS Enhanced Force Protection Capabilities Counter stand off weapons and enemy forces in all weather conditions day or night See around corners and out of defilade positions without exposure to enemy fire Rapidly locate, in real time, the origin of sniper/indirect enemy fire and counter this threat Engage enemy targets with improved accuracy, lethality, and at increased ranges with individual and crew served weapons Discriminate between friendly, enemy, and noncombatant personnel, in real time

4 M-4 Carbine M16A2 and GAU to M4 Carbine with M68
Replacing 45,000 M16A2s and GAUs with the M4 carbine (burst) 35,000 procured as a weapon system: M4 Carbine, M68 Close Combat Optic (CCO), and Back Up Iron Sight Being Delivered starting Nov 02 at 1000 p/m Converting from PVS 7Ds to PVS-14 Working M4/M203 configuration - M4 replaces all SF M16A2s and ALL GAU/GUU combinations - Modular system allows custom configuration of M4s based on mission - All M4s configured with an optic, primarily a close combat optic (red dot, non magnified) and a small number with a X4 magnified scope - Fires the new M855 green tipped M16A2 M4 Weight w/out magazine & sling 7 lbs. 8 oz 6 lbs. 7 oz Length in inches Closed buttstock Extended buttstock - 33 Barrel Length Inches/Twist 21/1:7 14.5/1:7 Muzzle velocity 3,100 fps 2,970 fps Cyclic rate of fire rds/m Max effective range individual/point targets 602 yards 547 yards Max effective range area targets 875 yards 650 yards Cost $ $801.00

6 M-240B Conversion M-240B Replaces aging and unreliable M60 with state-of-the-art, interoperable machine gun Delivery Nov 02 at 150 p/m average Full AF requirement of 2,500 procured Accessories—Pintle adapters for M122 tripod and HMMWV, and 2 BFAs - M240B significantly more reliable—latest tests show an average of 83,333 rounds before a major malfunction occurs versus 704 for the M60 - M60 fielded in 1957, no significant improvements since the 1960s - Army and Marine Corps will complete M240 fielding by CY 01 - AFSOC has replaced aircraft installed M60s with a version of the M240 - Advantages to replacing the M60 with the M240B are: -- Components are fully interchangeable with sister service M240 systems and 90% interchangeable with NATO country M240 systems -- Compatible with MILES -- Comes standard with the Picatinnay rail allowing commanders to rapidly custom configure weapon - Option of adding an M145 Machine Gun Optic (MGO) to the M240B

Need for enhanced Close Precision Engagement (CPE), target identification, and reaction time--CPE two shooter levels Level I M4 with 4X optic Best shooter in squad Out to 600 meters 2 days Training Level II 3 week specialized school at Camp Robinson, AR M24 with Leupold 10X optic Out to 1000 meters
