1 MIGRATION Migration - the movement of people from one region to another. Immigration - people entering a country to permanently settle there. Emigration - people leaving a country to permanently settle elsewhere. These can effect the population change of a country. Actual population change - change in population resulting from natural change (births / deaths) and migration (immigration / emigration) Actual change = (Births + Immigration) - (Deaths + Emigration)

3 FACTORS INFLUENCING MIGRATION
Push factor - negative things that make people want to leave a country. Examples: lack of jobs lack of services war Pull factor - positive things that make people want to move to a certain country. Examples: more jobs more services peaceful country

5 Repel factor - negative things that stop people from moving to a
certain country. Examples: crime rate high cost of living Intervening obstacles - things that prevents or inhibits a person from moving. Examples: lack of money immigration laws don’t want to leave family distance involved

6 Source – where migrants are coming from.
Destination- where migrants are going to.

7 Why should we allow more immigrants into Canada?
- shortage of skilled workers - increase working population - more taxes for government - they start businesses and provide employment - decrease dependency load - help others improve their lives Which country should allow migrants into the country? Why?
