The migration PDC moves first Onto new hardware Create new BDC, make Primary, upgrade. Legacy servers cause problems Server magic to increase partition size Upgrade, move services and dispose Dynamic DNS is necessary Separate zone devolved to W2K server

Using Active Directory New machine deployment RIS, DHCP + SP2, drivers installed, some applications - Need to update share, drivers not always easy Public workstations Use Group Policies + one right, all right - Policy options opaque

About to use AD for … Controlling IE Cache space History Added control over groups and users additional security on admin workstations Location of desktop folders

Not using AD for … Software deployment Have an investment in SMS Finer control Additional functionality

Conclusion Relatively painless Some immediate benefits No real losses Potential for more – given time to exploit it.
