This ‘blank’ or template version of the PowerPoint puzzle has been provided so that you can add your own text to the ‘top’ and ‘second’ layers of the puzzle. First of all, place a copy of this presentation on your computer or network using the ‘File’ menu option then ‘Save As’ to place it wherever you wish. Top Layer Text You may well wish to use the existing wording on the top layer of the ‘To be a successful learner I need to...’ puzzle and of the ‘To enable learners to be successful we need to...’ puzzle. The following instructions are provided to help you to add/modify text as you wish. To change the text on the ‘top layer’ of the puzzle pieces you will need to open ‘slide master’ view (menu option ‘View’ then ‘Master’ and ‘Slide Master’ on PowerPoint 2003). Click on the existing text and replace it with your own. It is important that you use the existing text boxes as they have links to the ‘second layer’ slides associated with them. Any text that you add to master slide 1 will then appear on all the slides (with the exception of the final slide). You should reformat the text so that it fits within the boundaries of each puzzle piece. To return to the normal slides choose ‘View’ from the menu and then ‘Normal’. Second Layer Text If you are creating/negotiating successful learner models for your own class, school or staff etc. it is likely that you will wish to change the second layer text after discussion, to support ownership and understanding. To edit the ‘second layer’ text (which appears when you click on a puzzle piece) simply go to that slide where you see ‘your text for second layer…’ over the relevant puzzle piece and click this text to replace it with your own. It is important to use the existing text boxes rather than inserting your own. The final slide repeats all of the ‘second layer’ text on a single slide which may be useful for printing. You will need to type this in a second time. Alternatively you may choose to remove the slide if it is not required. You may wish to delete this first slide with these instructions when you have finished. For further help on using PowerPoint please refer to the documentation provided with PowerPoint and the ‘Help’ facility on the menu.
