Effects of Poverty Poverty is linked with negative conditions such as substandard housing, homelessness and food insecurity, lack of access to health care, unsafe neighborhoods, and under resourced schools which adversely impact our nation’s children. There are an estimate number of children in poverty that cost an average amount of $500 billion a year.

Effects of Poverty There are poor children and teens that are at greater risk for several negative outcomes such as poor academic achievement, school dropout, abuse and neglect, behavioral and physical health problems, and developmental delays. Poverty has an effect on the academic outcomes of children, especially during their early childhood.

Effects of Poverty These effects are made up of children and their families encounter when trying to access physical and mental health care. The academic achievement gap for poorer youth is known for it’s low-income of African American and Hispanic children compared to their Caucasian peers.

Effects of Poverty Children and teens that live in a poor community are at increased risk for a wide range of physical health problems such as low birth weight and poor nutrition. There are also several more effects on poverty such as asthma, anemia, and pneumonia. Risky behaviors such as smoking or engaging in early sexual activity are another effect on children who stay in poverty.
