Love the Nations Acts 8 - Philip

Acts 8:1 “And Saul approved of his [Stephen’s] execution. And there arose on that day a great persecution against the church in Jerusalem, and they were scattered throughout all the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.”

Flow of Acts Jesus ascends into Heaven, promises Holy Spirit Jesus commands to reach Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, to the ends of the earth Holy Spirit comes, indwelling believers Persecution comes as an “unplanned accelerant” to the church planting movement

Flow of Acts Unlikely leaders, like Saul, are identified, but not yet sanctified into God’s overall plan Believers are scattered from a human perspective, but sent from a heavenly perspective And all of the sudden, the church is in Judea and Samaria (whoop!)

Acts 8:4-8 “Now those who were scattered went about preaching the word. Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed to them the Christ. And the crowds with one accord paid attention to what was being said by Philip when they heard him and saw the signs that he did. For unclean spirits, crying out with a loud voice, came out of many who had them, and many who were paralyzed or lame were healed. So there was much joy in that city.”

Love the Nations Acts 8:26-40 – Ethiopian Eunuch

Acts 8:31, 35 “And he [the eunuch] said, ‘How can I, unless someone guides me?’” (vs. 31)

Romans 10:14-15 “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach to them unless they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!’”

Acts 8:31, 35 “And he [the eunuch] said, ‘How can I unless someone guides me?’” (vs. 31) “Then Philip opened his mouth…” (vs. 35)

Key Points of Acts 8:26-40 Philip was in the midst of something already The Lord led Philip away to an unknown circumstance Philip met someone who was spiritually interested, but not scripturally aware

Many who want to believe are waiting for spiritual guides to help them.

Romans 15:20-21 “And thus I make it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, lest I build on someone else’s foundation, but as it is written, ‘Those who have never been told of him will see, and those who have never heard will understand.’”
