15 The pièce de résistance in the German modal universe. If I am only allowed to do something when I am supposed to do it, but can never do it when I want to do it, then I can’t do it when I have to do it. But if I am allowed to do it when I want to do it, then I also feel like doing it when I am supposed to do it and then I can do it when I have to do it. For you must realize: those who are supposed to be able to do something must also be allowed to want to do it.
