Kenneth T. Whitby Award American Association for Aerosol Research

The Kenneth T. Whitby Award “recognizes outstanding technical contributions aerosol science and technology by a young scientist. The purpose of the award is to encourage continued work in the field and ongoing support of such endeavors”. The award honors Kenneth T. Whitby, known for his contributions to aerosol measurement, the study of aerosol properties and behavior, and the nature of atmospheric aerosols.

2007 Recipient of the Kenneth T. Whitby Award Mark T. Swihart, Ph.D. State University of New York-Buffalo Professor Swihart has made significant fundamental and applied contributions to aerosol science beginning with his graduate research at the University of Minnesota (PhD- Chemical Engineering, 1997) and continuing at his current home institution. -Incorporation of detailed chemical kinetics into aerosol dynamic models and models of particle nucleation -Aerosol synthesis of nanomaterials -Improved data inversion code for Differential Mobility Analyzer -Six patents issued or pending -Outstanding teacher (10 MS and 5 PhD graduates)
