2. How "The Globe" came to be In 1597, Cuthbert Burbage inherited the Theater but not the land. His lease ran out, so he tore the Theater down to build a new one. The new land lease was split in two: half to the Burbage brothers and half to five of the other "Chamberlain's Men", including Shakespeare.
