ALICE-VHMPID collaboration meeting, CERN, 20120323. Technical matters. G. Bencze LS1 DCal configuration p.5 In the LS1 configuration, the nominal radial distance of DCal from the space frame is 24cm. However, considering the TOF crates supporting elements, the max. distance is 10cm. 10cm TOF crates supporting elements 24cm from A. Tauro Space frame DCAL

ALICE-VHMPID collaboration meeting, CERN, 20120323. Technical matters. G. Bencze DCAL-proposal for LS2 p.6 DCal modules lowered by 78cm. No modifications of A-side cradle. C-side cradle taken out and replaced with A-side like one.

ALICE-VHMPID collaboration meeting, CERN, 20120323. Technical matters. G. Bencze DCAL-proposal for LS2 p.7 Available vertical space: 72cm. Considering 5cm min. clearance, the max. vertical space is 67cm in front of the DCAL 67cm DCAL PHOS 5cm

ALICE-VHMPID collaboration meeting, CERN, 20120323. Technical matters. G. Bencze PHOS vs VHMPID p.8 If the PHOS is lowered after insertion till touching the DCal rails then 60cm available for VHMPID (considering 5cm clearance). 40cm 25cm PHOS DCAL VHMPID

ALICE-VHMPID collaboration meeting, CERN, 20120323. Technical matters. G. Bencze What is next in this issue p.9 67 cm (60 at PHOS) in not enough. There is room for increasing it: - more effort on the DCAL side - modification of PHOS - better understanding of the TOF-region To be continued……

ALICE-VHMPID collaboration meeting, CERN, 20120323. Technical matters. G. Bencze Budapest-related: what happened in 2011 p.19 The MIP-detection is not on the critical path: There is a candidate based on CCC-chambers 500x1000 m2 size demonstrated L0-operation demonstrated Possible further work will be discussed In Budapest during the coming weeks. A 6-layer 64x64 mm 2 BPD* was tested in November with GASSIPLEX readout. This device would be useful as standard equipment at T10. * BPD: CCC-type Beam Position Detector TCPD BPD * TCPD: Alternative photon-detector with a GEM and a CCC-type layer (TGEM+CCC Photon Detector) A 200x200 mm 2 TCPD* was tested in November with GASSIPLEX readout. Similar to the GEM/TGEM option (see slide 18)
