Product Recall What: Paramount Trident UV Sanitation Systems for Pools Recall Date: May 13 th, 2014 Why: It was found through testing that the sanitations units had the potential to catch fire due to electrical arcing. Incidents: There were 14 incidents in Canada and several others in the United States. Consumers reported melting and catching fire of units, one documented burn, and approximately $28000 of property damage. 3. Management Issues Recognition of Problems: The UV system for pools was in production for a brief period of time before there was any notice of incident or problem. After select incidents in both Canada and the United States, the decision was made to recall the UV Systems. Speed of Response: There is no documented account of when the systems were first reported as defective; however, considering that production of the UV systems stopped in January 2014, and the recalls were made in March of the same year, the recalls were made rather quickly. 4. Impact of Recall Legal Consequences: There have been no documented lawsuits or anything of the sort. Considering the severity of the damage that occurred in at least once incident, if the consumer decided to sue, it could prove to be costly to the company. Reputation: There has not been much immediate impact on the reputation of Trident; however, over time, people might become much more wary of buying their pool systems.
