3. What is a simile?
A simile is a comparison of two things that uses the words ‘like’ or ‘as’.
Examples
“The water dripped like a leaking tap”
“Running from her enemy as fast as a cheetah”

4. Explaining Meaning
When a poet uses similes, they often use them to try and liken what they are talking about to something that is more familiar.
The use of similes helps us to identify and look for different pictures (or images) that are in the poem.
