Hot And Cold Cans By Anakin Griffin And Kole Salatino ____________________________________________________________________________________

Idea Our idea for the warm can was to put paper towels and duct tape around the can. We did this to try to insolate the can. For the cold can, we simply set it on the floor because the ground was always cold.

The Attempt to Keep the Cans Warm and Cold We put the paper towels on the can as seen. Sadly, it didn’t work. The idea of putting the cold can on the floor, though not shown, did indeed work as the temperature decreased. The energy transfer method for both cans was conduction. Conduction was used for the cold can because the ground was cold. Trying to Keep Can Warm

The change in temperature The total change in temperature for the hot can starting from 40 Degrees Celsius to 34.8 Degrees Celsius was 5.2 degrees. The Total change in temperature for the cold can starting from 40 Degrees Celsius to 30.9 Degrees Celsius was 9.1 Degrees.

Flow of Energy Cold GroundCold Can Contact w/ can Paper Towels & Duct Tape Hot Can Contact w/ can Conduction was what we used to try to transfer the heat and cold to the cans.

Comparing To Control Cans The temperature in the hot can is similar to the control can because it is going down in temperature, but slower than the control can. That means our arrangement didn’t work for the hot can because it started at a temperature of 40 C and ended at 34.8 C. The cold can is similar to the control can because both cans are going down in temperature, but the cold can decreased at a faster time than the control can did. That means our arrangement for the cold can worked, because it started at a temperature of about 40 C and ended at 30.9 C A difference for the hot and cold cans from the control can is each can went down in degrees slower or faster than the control can did.

Graph of the Cans The graph shows how fast the cans decreased in temperature at each minute of the experiment. The cold can had the most decrease in temperature. The hot can on the other hand, had a slower decrease in temperature, therefore it was hotter than the control can except for the first 3 minutes.

How we could have modified our idea We could have improved on the hot can by having something meant to keep things warm wrapped around it, like clothing such as a sock or hat.

!!!!THE END!!!! Or is it?
