In 1800 B.C., nomadic Hebrews migrated to Egypt. These Hebrews eventually would be enslaved by the Egyptians After many years, Moses helped the Hebrews escape from Egypt. Hebrews believed that God had made a agreement with Moses - They were the chosen people of God on earth.

In 1025 B.C., the Hebrews formed the kingdom of Israel. For many years this kingdom was a major force in the Middle East. However, overtime the Jews were conquered by one foreign group after another. (Persians, Greeks, and Romans) Diaspora- In 70 A.D. the Jews revolted against Roman rule. After a nasty war, the Jews were forced to scatter throughout the world.

Monotheistic Hebrews recorded their moral and religious laws in their sacred book, the Torah Ten Commandments Urged people to respect and honor God Forbid stealing, lying, cheating, and murder Ethical world view Treat all people with respect

Jesus was born in Palestine while it was under Roman rule. At age 30, Jesus became a preacher, teaching the people about God’s goodness and mercy. Jesus’ popularity began to rise the Roman’s saw this as a threat. Roman’s were upset that Jesus did not accept the Roman emperor as a god.

The teachings of Jesus were rooted in Jewish tradition Jesus stressed love for God and compassion for all people Jesus claimed in the eyes of God all people were equal. Why is this such a different view? Taught that all people who were humble, merciful and unselfish would be reward in the afterlife
