Moumita Maiti, Kaustab Ghosh, T.M. Mendonça, Thierry Stora, Susanta Lahiri Primary result on RaBIT irradiations of LBE targets at CERN-ISOLDE

We reported on 17 th December, 2013: AIM of the Experiment: To make total inventory and quantification of the radionuclides produced by bombardment of 1.4 GeV proton on LBE targets Production of 210 At radionuclides dependence on target thickness

AIM of the Experiment: To make total inventory and quantification of the radionuclides produced by bombardment of 1.4 GeV proton on LBE targets Production of 210 At radionuclides dependence on target thickness The method: Six LBE samples (φ = 6 mm and different lenghts) LBE samples were encapsulated Irradiation with 1.4 GeV proton beam using RaBIT setup at ISOLDE Irradiation time 1-3 s Maximum integrated intensity 3.43 x 10 13 protons Time resolved gamma measurements

Results: (Reported on 17 th December, 2012’s meting) Length of LBE target Intensity of proton beam Time of irradiation Time elapsed before first measurement 210 At 8 mm3.22 ×10 13 3 s26 hNo signature 7 mm3.26 ×10 13 3 s27 hNo signature 6 mm3.40 ×10 13 3 s26 hNo signature 5 mm3.43 ×10 13 3 s28 hNo signature 4 mm3.00 ×10 13 1 s30 hNo signature Production of 210 At (T 1/2 = 8.3 h)

In the present experiment maximum length of the sample was 0.8 cm. No 210 At was observed in any of the samples. Therefore production of At through (p,  - xn) on 209 Bi or secondary reactions involving 3 He and 4 He might be a thick target phenomenon, and not observed in thinner targets as used in present experiment.

New Results:  Series of gamma spectra were taken in regular time interval  The gamma spectra were analyzed.  Radioisotopes identified in the samples starting from 7 Be (53.12 d) to 206 Po (8.8 d) in the periodic table.  The total number of identified radioisotopes in sample length 2 mm and 8 mm are 76 and 102 respectively. Radioisotopes present in sample length 2 mm is also present in 8 mm too.  Most of the radioisotopes identified in the samples belongs to 4 th, 5 th and 6 th period.  The long lived radioisotopes in both the samples have been identified.  Some short lived radioisotopes in sample length 8 mm is yet to be identified and will be reported in next meeting.  The other four samples will also be analyzed shortly.  Series of gamma spectra were taken in regular time interval  The gamma spectra were analyzed.  Radioisotopes identified in the samples starting from 7 Be (53.12 d) to 206 Po (8.8 d) in the periodic table.  The total number of identified radioisotopes in sample length 2 mm and 8 mm are 76 and 102 respectively.
