Basic Units: g, m, l upper staircase: larger units (uppercase) lower staircase: smaller units (lowercase) to convert from basic units to either larger or smaller units, count the number of steps that you move & move the decimal point over, that many times, to the right or the left! Ex. 5 g =________mg 5 g= 5.0 g *you are moving 3 steps down! *move 3 decimal places to the right! Answer= _________mg
