5 Element of Art - Shape and Form Copy these into your art booklet- (all) people – all terms Shape - an area enclosed by a line. A shape is two dimensional. It has a height and a width, but no depth it is flat. Geometric Shapes/forms - are precise and sharply defined. They usually can be defined by a mathematical formula are usually easy to recognize such as circles, squares and triangles. Organic Shapes/forms - reflect the free-flowing shapes found in nature. Often curved and rounded. Curved shapes – considered graceful because the eye sweeps along them without interruption, they tend to suggest movement. Angular shapes - Straight-edged. Suggest strength and regularity. Eyes start and stop where one line connects with another.

6 Silhouette - a total solid shape of an object Positive shapes – tangible shapes defined by actual objects Negative shapes - are the areas that surround the positive shapes. These areas take on their own shape after the positive shapes are laid down. Static - mostly vertical and horizontal shapes that appear to be standing or still. Dynamic - suggest movement, falling, running or climbing usually by diagonal and leaning shapes. Form - describes something with three dimensions: length(height), width and depth. Important…. To give the illusion of form, you rely on how light reacts on the object with Value: highlights, mid-tones, shadows and cast shadow. Volume - forms giving the illusion of density and mass. The physical bulk of a solid body of material. Shapes are 2d/flat and Forms are 3d

7 Tuesday Art 1-2 nd only 2 nd period you are almost finished with bottle- Get art box- get out oriental symbols- you found from homework If not get out phone and look up 3 symbols with meanings In the Negative shapes around bottle- draw with ink the symbols- then in small sharpie write the means under the calligraphy line Boarder- ink line that goes around the paper but does not touch the edge of the paper or the symbols/bottle Sketchbooks are ready to go reg

9 Art 1 4 th 6 th and 7th Get water, art box- wet watercolors- get project Watch putting water on desk- control the flow Make sure you have a tray by your desk Paint the desk with strong color- lay paper in it and let it sit for s few minutes Put on tray Clean desk Get ink drawing of plant and paint watercolor on the drawing- see example

13 MONDAY ART 1 Get Sketchbook and art box Review broken shapes with silhouette If you did not do the silhouettes and the back of the handout – finish for homework Turn your sketchbook to new page and draw the still life Geometric/angular broken shapes on 1 page And on new page draw organic/curved broken shapes.

14 5th Get art box, art booklet, paper from yesterday Break these shapes into organic and geometric shapes More to come Your weekly will be due Monday

15 6 th and7th D Lunch – 12:51-1:14 6th Period – 1:19-1:35 7th Period – 1:40-2:00 Get art box and paper with bottle on it Get out your oriental symbols and ink/brush – get paper towel too Demo on background

17 Thursday Art 1 Get art box, bottle paper, paper towel- and calligraphy symbols if you do not have yours In the background around the bottle- draw the letters with your brush(you pick) then use small sharpie to write the meaning After you do this and clean up ink get critique and fill out the form and tape to back Review for line quiz

19 5 th period Art 1 Get art box, scissors, glue and 1 sheet of colored paper Get hand out and color shapes – be very creative Next outline them with small sharpie Next cut them out very carefully Put them over to the side with colored paper Tang gram game

22 Friday Art 1 Get art box, get sketchbook –put date on back of drawing Turn in to me Quiz on line Finish critique and still life painting

23 Friday Art 1 5 th Get your art box- Your sketchbook is due Monday- Get 1 of each size of paper- there are 3 sizes Set up for project- Look at direct observation subject- Draw still life- big and to fit the paper- Teacher directed

24 6 th and 7 th Art 1 Friday Get art box- Weekly is due Monday Quiz on line All finished- Then work on still life of plant- watercolor on ink drawing.
