Mark 8.27-9.13: Confessing Christ Confession 1: Peter - “You are the Christ” (8.29) - “he didn’t know what to say” (9.6) - but he got it right! - speaks from heart knowledge - and informs the head - just like how some people become Christians Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven.” (Matthew 16.17)

Mark 8.27-9.13: Confessing Christ Confession 1: Peter - “You are the Christ” (8.29) Confession 2: God the Father - “This is my Son whom I love” (9.7) “Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight...” (Psalm 51.4) For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3.16)

Mark 8.27-9.13: Confessing Christ Confession 1: Peter - “You are the Christ” (8.29) Confession 2: God the Father “This is my Son whom I love” (9.7) Jesus asks us: “Who do you say I am?” Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “If “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” (Mark 8.34) - which means - going to death - a one-way journey - lost control - as if already dead - but: to lose our lives with Jesus is better than to keep them without him

Mark 8.27-9.13: Confessing Christ Confession 1: Peter - “You are the Christ” (8.29) Confession 2: God the Father “This is my Son whom I love” (9.7) Jesus asks us: “Who do you say I am?” What think you of Christ? is the test To try both your state and your scheme; You cannot be right in the rest, Unless you think rightly of him. As Jesus appears in your view, As he is beloved or not, So God is disposed to you, And mercy or wrath are your lot.

Mark 8.27-9.13: Confessing Christ Confession 1: Peter - “You are the Christ” (8.29) Confession 2: God the Father “This is my Son whom I love” (9.7) Jesus asks us: “Who do you say I am?” Some take him a creature to be, A man or an angel at most: Sure these have not feelings like me, Nor know themselves wretched and lost; So guilty, so helpless am I, I durst [dare] not confide in [rely on] his blood, Nor on his protection rely, Unless I were sure he is God.

Mark 8.27-9.13: Confessing Christ Confession 1: Peter - “You are the Christ” (8.29) Confession 2: God the Father “This is my Son whom I love” (9.7) Jesus asks us: “Who do you say I am?” If ask'd what of Jesus I think? Though still my best thoughts are but poor, I say, he's my meat and my drink, My life, and my strength, and my store; My Shepherd, my Husband, my Friend, My Saviour from sin and from thrall; [imprisonment] My hope from beginning to end, My portion, my Lord, and my All. (John Newton)
