2 Health Literacy? Nearly 9 out of 10 adults have difficulty using everyday health information. Limited health literacy is associated with poorer health outcomes and higher health care costs. Shared responsibility between individuals and physicians will improve the quality of health care and reduce health care costs. WHY

4 Strong HEALTH LITERACY Skills  Take care of yourself  Manage a chronic disease  Understand how to take medicines and calculate dosages  Navigate the healthcare system, including filling out complex forms and locating providers and services  Compare insurance coverage and costs

5 Teens ages 15 to 17 need to go to the doctor or nurse for a “well-child visit” once a year. A well-child visit is when you get a full checkup, separate from any other visit for sickness or injury. Did You Know?

6 Doctors recommend all pre-teens, ages 11 and 12, receive: A Tdap booster shot An MCV4 shot 3 HPV shots given over a 6-month period Doctors recommend an MCV4 booster at age 16. Doctors recommend a yearly flu shot. Did You Know? Vaccines are one of the most effective and simplest ways to prevent serious diseases.

7 Ask about screening: to be sure you are a healthy weight for depression If you are sexually active, talk with your doctor about tests for sexually transmitted diseases. Be sure to get enough folic acid in your diet, especially if you are a female. Did You Know?
