2  Unintentional suffocation is a leading cause of injury deaths for children less than one year of age.  Other unintentional injuries affecting infant mortality rates include motor vehicle collisions and drowning.

3  Intentional injury/abusive trauma also contributes to Oklahoma’s high infant mortality rate.

4 National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome “To educate and train parents and professionals, and to conduct research that will prevent the shaking and abuse of infants in the U.S.”

10 CLICK Your Needles Together to Prevent Infant Abuse Help knit or crochet purple colored newborn baby caps for boys and girls! Caps will be given to babies in hospitals and public health offices during November and December. Create as many as you like – from 5 to 50, or any number in between, using any newborn baby cap pattern, and any shade of soft, baby-friendly PURPLE yarn. Your caps will be given to babies to help educate parents about the Period of PURPLE Crying. A normal, but frustrating period of increased crying all infants experience in the first few weeks and months after birth. Please help spread the word and encourage others to start knitting!
