Globalizing Professional Activities Initiative In response to the SC08 recommendations, an ad hoc committee in Globalizing IEEE Professional Activities was set up in 2009 to: – inventory and assess the current state of Professional Activities within IEEE, –compile data on member interests and preferences related to Professional Activities, their management and financing – develop a strategic plan to assist all regions in developing Professional Activities tailored to their specific needs and interests.
2
Next Steps No good new initiatives can be identified. It is suggested to enhance the service of free Ebook and Webinar. Other “activities” now available in USA are not applicable outside. The GPA suggestions were accepted and to be carried out in the general routine. IEEE-USA E-Books offer a convenient way to brush up on career and policy issues, more new ebooks have been added, http://www.ieeeusa.org/communications/ebooks/ http://www.ieeeusa.org/communications/ebooks/
3
Suggested Professional Activities Get each member in R10 to aware that free Ebook and Webinar are available from HQ Web page. Basing on these, Sections can organize training course with their local specialties Promote R10 members to visit IEEE TV- ieeetv.ieee.org/, this can be particular good for members to improve English as their 2nd language Enhance and more R10 Distinguish Lectures, Lecture video being archived in the R10 Web Sharing experience in good Section Management, organize lectures to new Sections

IEEE History Committee Y W Liu is appointed corresponding member in History Committee. History Committee major Programs include: - –EE & Computing Milestones –STARS –Global History Network (GHN)
6
IEEE Milestones in EE & Computing Honors significant technical achievements in associated with IEEE Recognize the technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity found in unique products, services, seminal papers and patents As least 25 years old, and must have had at least regional importance
7
STARS STARS is an acronym for Significant Technological Achievement Recognition Selections online compendium of invited, peer-reviewed articles on the history of major developments in electrical and computer science and technology provide authoritative information, valuable in itself, but also useful as starting points for further investigations
8
Different between Milestone & STARS IEEE Milestone typically consists of one event that took place in one location Milestone need not have worldwide significance, but may be primarily of local or regional significance achievement recognized by the STARS Program has worldwide significance typically each consists of many closely related events that took place in more than one location over a period of time
9
Global History Network (GHN) GHN is intended to be the world’s premier site for the documentation, analysis and explanation of the history of electrical, electronic, and computer technologies, the scientists, engineers and business people who made these technologies happen, and on the history of the organizations to which these men and women belonged
10
Global History Network uses a wiki-based web platform to foster a collaborative online environment IEEE GHN will also provide a central location for all materials related to IEEE’s organizational history GHN is available at: http://www.ieeeghn.orghttp://www.ieeeghn.org
