PELOPONNESIAN WAR Athens, one of the leading Greek city states, is becoming more powerful culturally and economically. They have the greatest navy in Greece. Athens forms and dominates the “Delian League,” a group of Greek city states and colonies that Athens effectively rules as an empire.

PELOPONNESIAN WAR CONT. War breaks out with Sparta and her allies on and off for many years beginning in 460 B.C. Major conflicts in 431-421 B.C. 410-404 B.C. at which point Athens is defeated. Oedipus the King performed ca. 426.

30 MIN. SNOWBALLING—TIME KEEPER? Pairs for about 5 minutes and discuss each others’ ideas. Join another group to form a quartet and discuss 1) a question that arose, 2) a difference they noted in your conversations, 3) a new insight that suggested itself in the pairs. Then a group of 8, then 16, then whole class.
