Challenges in Nursing Education Professional practice: bachelor´s degree Advanced practice: master´s degree Leadership roles in research, theory development, and teaching: doctoral degree In response, college of nursing will expand flexible educational programs to improve access Will develop differentiated levels of nursing education that correspond to differentiated level of practice

3. Outcome based education The quality of educational programs will continue to be judged by students competencies What students can actually do as a result of education They will be required to report on graduates accomplishment as part of the accreditation process The emphasis on accountability of nursing education programs will increase as measures of competence in graduates are refined مكرر

Outcome-based education Faculty will modify age-old teaching/learning strategies and adopt new pedagogies (teaching methods) proven effective through research (i.e. evidence based teaching) Passive learning such as lectures will be deemphasized Critical thinking, independent decision making and creative problem solving will assume even greater importance, foster by role playing, simulations and group problem solving

Outcome-based education Faculty will be required to document evidence based teaching as part of accreditation processes Accreditation of nursing education programs will become more difficult to achieve as national accrediting bodies come under increasing pressure to raise standard and to apply standards consistently Substandard programs will be closed This will strengthen nursing but will not help the nursing shortage

Diversity تنوع Students in nursing education become more diverse than ever before More men, older students, and students with other baccalaureate degrees in other fields will come into nursing because of the emotional rewards, المكافآت العاطفية economic stability and professional image Student bodies will become more culturally diverse, reflecting the diversity of the nation´s population

Diversity Access to education for non-traditional and traditional students will be greater issue Schools will expand non-traditional curricula that enable adults to work and go to schools simultaneously Nursing courses delivered by distance learning technologies such as telecommunication, and satellite linkages will increase access for students living in remote areas

Diversity Changes in demographic will affect the content of curricula as well as the methods by which content is delivered As the population ages the need for nurses prepared in gerontology, chronic disease management, and hospice care will give emphasis to educational program at both on under graduate and graduate levels

Diversity Curricula will emphasize community based care traditional hospital based care Educational programs will develop and expand multicultural courses Foreign language will become a graduation requirement in baccalaureate program International educational opportunities will increase as the global village concept becomes a reality Every nursing program will have the provision of culturally competent care as an outcome criterion for its graduate

Technology and nursing informatics´ impact Faculty will be challenged to keep pace with student´s acquisition of knowledge from the World Wide Web Students will become active in obtaining information from the sources available This will enable students to be more engaged in their own learning process and foster active learning

12. Technology and nursing informatics´ impact Nursing faculty will be required to practice the profession actively to keep up with rapidly changing technologies. Maintaining faculty currency will become a greater focus in higher education. Active practice in addition to teaching will become an expected part of the faculty role. Students will be incorporated into faculty practices to obtain clinical experience. In this regards nursing education will resemble medical education

Technology and nursing informatics´ impact It will be impossible of nursing education programs to include in their curricula every thing nurses of the future need to know If Genomics and disaster nursing are to be added to curricula, what will be removed??? Nursing students are already overwhelmed with the amount of material they must master The solution to this problem is that all nurses must be educated to become life-long learners

Technology and nursing informatics´ impact They must be taught to expect change and be prepared to adapt or retool their skills quickly to respond to health care marketplace demands They must become active in their own behalf,perusing knowledge and refreshing their own knowledge base through vigorous, self motivated continuing education efforts

15. Technology and nursing informatics´ impact Licensing examinations will change to reflect the expansion of nursing knowledge and the increase in community-based practice and resulting autonomy. Licensure at multiple levels will become a reality. Employers of new graduates will expect to provide internships designed to enable novices to make the transition from student to practicing nurse effectively

Collaboration As nurses acquire more education, the resulting knowledge and self confidence will enable them to develop collaborative relationships on an equal footing wityh physicians and other highly educated health care professionals This will enable nurses to more assertive in patient advocacy and will improve patient care and strengthen the profession

Collaboration Nursing faculty, nurse manager, and practicing nurses will join forces to strengthen educational experiences and mentorships for tomorrow´s nurses They will collaborate on clinical research that demonstrate the effectiveness of nursing care in terms of patient outcomes They will collaborate with other nurses and consumer groups to remove regularity restriction that impede advanced clinical practice

18. Collaboration Nurse educators will recognize the need to treat students as professionas in training and will transform nursing education attitudes from controlling students to calloborating with them This will create a new generation of empowered nursing proffesion

Collaboration Disciplinary boundaries are becoming blurred as knowledge from all disciplines is brought to bear of problems of mutual concern, such as breast cancer, domestic violence, and AIDS Nursing must become more interdisciplinary in its focus Only nurses with strong sense of personal and professional identity will be able to enter fully into multidisciplinary collaboration Those nurses who understand the value of collaboration will become the managers of care using a case management model, and they will thrive
