2 The Media Center The Media center is a classroom with teacher-librarians. No longer just a book center. Provide new and innovative ways to learn.

3 Roles of a Media Specialist No longer just book people. Prepare students for the future. Integrate Web 2.0 resources into literacy lessons that support the curriculum. Collaborate More

4 Importance of Collaboration Key to a successful library. Use technology as a tool for collaboration with teachers. “Teacher-librarians are instructional partners that help students and staff master traditional and digital information skills”(Harris, 2007).

5 Why Use Technology in the Media Center? Generation of techno-savvy kids Interactive and fun Encourages students to want to figure out things which leads to learning more. “Technology will empower individual students to master course material at their own pace” (McCain, 2010). Safety Issues

6 Benefits of Using Web 2.0 Tools to Enhance Student Learning Supports the mission of a school library program, “to instill a love of learning in all students and ensure equitable access to information” (AASL, 2009 p.7). Gather, learn, and share information Critical thinkers Skillful researchers Communicate globally with others Possibilities are endless (graphic organizers, collaborative projects, etc)

7 Web 2.0 Tools Way to share information using the Internet Computer Free applications or low cost Set up an account Examples - Wikis, Wordles, Bubbl.us, Fotobabble, Wallwisher, Glogster, Skype, and more.
