1 Development of the Industrial U.S. 1870-1900 The late 19 th century marked a spectacular outburst of technological innovation, which fueled a headlong economic growth and delivered material benefits to many Americans Essential Question: What inventions created a great change and industrial growth in the U.S?

2 Development of the Industrial U.S. 1870-1900 The rise of the American corporation and the advent of big business brought about a concentration of the nation’s productive capacities in fewer hands. Mechanization brought farming into the realm of big business and turned the U.S. into the world’s premier producer of food – a position we have never surrendered.

3 Development of the Industrial U.S. 1870-1900 This period also witnessed unprecedented immigration and urbanization, both of which were indispensable to industrial expansion. The proverbial melting pot became even more diverse as immigrants thronged from southern and eastern Europe AND Essential Question: What cities historically have had P/E/S significance to the development of the United States?
