2 Introduction  Powerparent is an organization that provides education, support, mentoring and parental resources for teenage parents.  Powerparent will include registered nurses, dietitians and social workers to provide the best education and information to local teen parents.  This service will be located in Lake County Michigan near the high school.

3 Need for Powerparent  Lake County, Michigan, has a teen pregnancy rate of 64.8 per 1,000 teens, which is much higher than the 48.3 rate in other Michigan counties (DHD #10, 2014).  This county also has a high single parent and employment rate.  There is limited funding and available preventative services for at need teens who are already pregnant.  All of these factors indicate a need for this service.

7 Organizational Structure  Director- (full time) Determines staffing requirements Hires and trains new staff Accountable to mission and philosophy statements Reviews performance data and monitor productivity Collaborates with other disciplines  Administrative Assistant( full time) - offers support to director of PowerParent and facilitates the organization. Helps assist volunteer coordinator as needed  General Manager (full-time) - maintains and enhances PowerParent by planning, implementation and evaluates staff of policies and procedures. Must have effective communication skills and understand employment laws and sexual harassment laws. Responsible for coordination of volunteers

Cost varies from $1250- 5000/month dependent on the size of the ad 3 month minimum  Grand Rapids Press Career finder for a ½ page is ~2,400 for 30 days  Lake County Star (local paper)- cost is $40/6 weeks – total is $51.60 this includes graphic and font size  Professional website- $950  Additional ads in schools, doctors office, health departments and grocery stores

13 Potential Advertisement for Nurse Manager Nurse Manager Are you looking to influence and being an advocate for teenagers who have become pregnant? PowerParent has the opportunity for you. We are looking for a dedicated nurse with experience in management. We are a small non-profit organization that provides resources for young parents. Our organization upholds the mission of providing support, education, compassion, mentoring to young women and men. Our objectives are to equip these young new parents with the skills needed to successfully care for their infant. We provide information on parenting skills, life skills, financial responsibility and promoting accountability. Responsibilities would be but not limited to hiring and training new staff, assisting the director in making policies and procedures, accountable to helping plan a budget that is fiscally appropriate. Participation in employee evaluations, using critical thinking and good judgment skills, works well within a team and collaborates with other disciplines and management and leadership qualities The nurse manager would be responsible for and working closely with a lactation consultant, nurse educator, social worker and dietitian. These positions would be part time and report directly to the nurse manager. Education required is minimum of 2 years with manager experience and holds a bachelors degree in nursing. 14 Potential Volunteer advertisement Are you looking for a way to make an impact on the lives of teens that have become pregnant? We are looking for you!! Our organization is PowerParent. We are a small non-profit organization that wants to make an impact on the lives of teenagers and provide adequate resources for young parents. Our organization upholds the mission of providing support, education, compassion, mentoring to young women and men. Our objectives are to equip these young new parents with the skills needed to successfully care for their infant. We provide information on parenting skills, life skills, financial responsibility and promoting accountability. We are looking for volunteers that would be willing to talk and listen to the teens that come into the center. Responsibilities may include showing videos on peri-natal care and infant care, providing assistance in the teens obtaining their GED’s and mentoring a teen and empowering them to their highest potential. Our organization has a director, nurse manager, nurse educator, lactation consultant and social worker. Assisting each of them in their responsibilities would also be part of the job description. We are looking for someone who has a positive attitude and has volunteered with teenagers before. Requirement to also have some knowledge in obstetrics and infant care would be preferred.
