1 Women in Sports By: Nora Demetrius

2 Organizations National Association for Girls and Women in Sports Women’s Sports Foundation Mission: ◦“To develop and deliver equitable and quality sport opportunities for all girls and women through relevant research, advocacy, leadership development, education strategies, and programming in a manner that promotes social justice and change.” Mission: ◦“Advocates the lives of girls and women through sports and physical activity.”

3 Our Goal: As to why women and girls need to be involved in sports Our point is to work and the well-being of women and girls through sports. Just as guys/men are always told to go push towards sports, and we should do the same for our girls.

4 History The National Association for Girls and Women in Sports was established in 1899. During those times the rules were different for men and women sports. The Women’s Sports Foundation was founded by Billie Jean King in 1974. WSF published an athletic scholarship guide for women since they only had few opportunities to play at a college level.

6 Women’s Sports Foundation WSF get’s most of their money for the foundation from Individuals, and hardly any from the Federal Government.

7 Title IX Title IX is a law that is primarily enforced by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights. Gives high schools and colleges federal funding if they meet these athletic requirements: 1. The high school or college must determine whether male or female students are being provided equitable opportunities to play sports. 2. If athletic scholarships are being provided, they should be provided in direct proportion to the student athlete percentage. 3. The overall benefits provided to male athletes should be similar in quality, quantity, and suitability to the overall benefits provided to female athletes.
