4
Landscape A region that has landforms that are related by similarities in shape, climate, and/or geologic setting; the general shape of a large area of the land surface, such as plains, plateau, or mountain

Lets Describe the Landscapes Looking through the pictures with your partner describe what they landscapes look like. Try to guess what we might call each type of landscape.
14
Elevation How high or low something is compared to sea level
15
How do we describe the height of a landscape? A region showing great variation in elevation has high relief and a region showing little variation in elevation has low relief. Regions with high relief typically have steep slopes; those with low relief have gentle slopes.
16
Examples High relief = lots of mountains/hills Low relief = flat. So, what are three main landscape reliefs regions?
17
Parts of Earth’s crust that project at least 300m above the surrounding land Folded underlying bedrock caused by UPLIFT Mountains
19
Large areas of relatively flat to gently rolling land at high elevations Horizontal underlying rock layers Plateaus
20
Large areas of flat land at low elevations Plain
21
Match each of the following with their name (mountains, plains or plateaus) Which has the greatest relief? Least relief? Quick practice
