1 British Literature Entry Task: Today we are starting a new literary era; the Renaissance. What do you know about this time period? What kind of literature do you expect to read? On your paper discuss what you know about the Renaissance and the authors from that time period.

2 Learning Goals Students will be exposed to other cultures and time periods, quality literature and effective/varied writing styles Students will begin to understand key facts that influenced and developed literature Students will write effectively in expository mode to examine/analysis a complex idea

3 Learning Targets: Renaissance and Renaissance Theatre -Students will be able to identify and comprehend the themes of Love, Death, and Time -Students will recognize the renewed interest in the classics on Renaissance art and poetry -Students will recognize the impact of the monarchy on the arts -Students will understand the impact of the printing press on culture and literature -Students will be able to identify the format and components of Shakespearean sonnets: iambic pentameter -Students will understand the factors which influenced Shakespeare’s writing and the overall production of drama
