oneone GTE-7B Objective: To explore series circuits in order to see how circuits transfer electricity Energy Note: How do circuits differ from each other?? Drill: 1. Get a new lab from the SET. 2. Pre-read the lab up through Activity 1. 3. Flip your tag to GREEN once you understand the setup.
2
oneone GTE-7B Materials: Series Circuit Board (1) Switch (1) D-Cells in Holders (2) Wires (5)
3
oneone GTE-7B DO NOT LEAVE THE SWITCH IN ANY CIRCUIT CLOSED FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME.
4
oneone GTE-7B Activity 1: Construction Construct the circuit shown Figure 2. Figure 2 Example Circuit 1 Close the switch to test the circuit. FE D C BA
5
oneone GTE-7B Activity 2: Exploration 1.Close the switch again. 2.Observe the brightness of the lamps. 3.Open the switch. 4.Record your observations.
6
oneone GTE-7B 1.Close the switch and remove one of the lamps from its base. 2.Record your observations. Why do you think this occurred?
7
oneone GTE-7B 1.Identify the type of circuit you have constructed. 2.Justify your response with information from the lesson and your observations. Series Circuit a. Bulbs connected one after the other. b. Bulbs are either all on or all off.
8
oneone GTE-7B Close the switch. Connect a wire from connection B to connection D. What happens? Why do you think this occurs?
9
oneone GTE-7B Experiment further. Record and explain any observations.
10
oneone GTE-7B HOMEWORK In your Log Book design a circuit with 3 or more appliances where if one appliance goes off, the others stay on.
