1 The PLANETS and the SOLAR SYSTEM
By Maggie Hall

2 Our solar system There are eight planets in our solar system
The eight planets in order are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune In our solar system we also have asteroids stars and moons and many other things

3 The Inner Solar System In the inner solar system we have four inner planets they are mercury Venus earth and mars. The inner solar system are also the planets closest to the sun They are also the smallest planets besides Pluto.

4 The outer solar system In the outer solar system we have four other planets they are known as the gas giants there Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, Jupiter is the largest gas giant and the largest planet in our solar system The outer planets are farthest from the sun

5 Earths surface Earth is the only planet containing 21% oxygen and the only planet with life 93 miles from the sun and larger than mercury 70% of earths surface is water and 30% is land 3% of earths water is fresh another name for earth is terra Earth has five oceans: the pacific , Atlantic, arctic ,southern, and Indian ocean The largest ocean is the pacific and the smallest is the arctic

6 Earths surface the seven continents : north America, south America, Africa, Australia, Asia, and Europe The grand canyon is located in Arizona which is in the united states it was formed by erosion by ice wind and water it is 270 miles long and 1 mile deep

7 Mars surface mars is called the red planets because the iron oxide gives of its dusty red color The highest mountain on earth is called Mt. Olympus it is 15 miles high Mars surface is very dry and has many volcanoes and mountains Mars polar ice caps are made up of mostly water

8 Mars surface Valles Marineris is the largest canyon in the solar system, stretching 4,000 kilometers across Mars surface . Mars is covered by craters from objects like asteroids and meteorites hitting the planet. Today, 43,000 craters have been found and that is only including the large ones. The dust storms on Mars are larger than on any other planet in the solar system. Some dust storms on Mars can blanket almost the entire planet in just a few days

9 Curiosity Curiosity is a rover and its job is to seek signs that Mars could have once supported life Curiosity's size allows it to carry a bunch of scientific experiments that will be able to zap, analyze and take pictures of any rock within reach of its 7-foot arm. Curiosity is about the size of a small van. It is 9 feet 10 inches long by 9 feet 1 inch wide and about 7 feet high. It weighs about 2,000 pounds.

10 How Earth and Mars are alike
They both have north and south polar ice caps also both ice caps are mostly made of water. They both have moons. They both have seasons and they also both have canyons, mountains, and volcanoes. They also both orbit the sun there in the inner solar system

11 How earth and mars are different
They aren't the same colors. Earth is bigger than mars Earth has a protective layer of atmosphere and can store heat unlike mars. Mars seasons, days, and years are longer There is no oxygen on mars and temperatures go higher and lower than earths

12 Conclusion I have learned that Venus is the brightest planet and that Jupiter is the stormiest also that mars color is from iron oxide. I also learned about mars having canyons and ice caps I have learned other facts about earth that I didn’t even know about and learned more about all of the other planets
