WARM UP Bring your notebook, pencil and agenda to your desk
Work on Tuesday’s warm up only ( do not work ahead) If finished before the 5 minute timer goes off, look over your unpacked standard for 6.P.3 that you received yesterday
3
Today’s Agenda Track our results for Sound 6.P.1.3 (block 1 only)
Track our Unit Test Results 6.P.1 Read Unpacked Standard “Popcorn style” Begin our final unit in Physical Science 6.P.3.1 Vocabulary Activity on Quizlet
4
Quiz Results and Tracking
You will receive your bubble sheets back along with your new tracking sheet Record your Pre Test Score for 6.P.1.3 Sound Now record your Post Test score for 6.P.1.3 Sound Record your Unit Test score on the back of your sheet: Label it Unit Test 6.P.1 Waves, Light, Sound Now pass everything back in
5
Interactive Notebook Q2
Label Next Available Page: 6.P.3.1 Types of Energy (Energy Transfer) Number page to match Table of Contents entry
6
Unpacked Standard Please take out your standard from yesterday
We will read this out loud today popcorn style
7
Intro. Discovery Ed video
“A Look at Energy”
8
Chromebooks Today You will record this unit’s vocabulary today using a chromebook and the website Quizlet I will dismiss you by rows to obtain your chromebook Return to your seat Login and go to quizlet Wait for directions from teacher
9
6.P.3.1 Vocabulary Energy and Heat Transfer
In the quizlet search box type: 6.P.3.1 Vocabulary Energy and Heat Transfer
10
You will record the definitions for this unit directly in your notebook
It includes 16 words Use the flashcards to record the definitions When you finish writing vocabulary words and definitions, test yourself with the “learn, speller, test, scatter, and race” activities
11
Conduction, Convection, Radiation Rap
You will receive a handout that describes this important concept Follow along and fill in the blanks with the correct information I will play the rap 2 times to make sure you can get all the information
12
Notes Today! You will take notes today in your notebook and on a graphic organizer 1st: You will write these notes directly into your interactive notebook
13
Write in notebook: Heat Transfer
Energy (heat) can be transferred from 1 system to another or from a system to the environment in different ways (radiation, conduction, convection)
14
Write in notebook: Conduction
If two things are touching … heat energy is probably moving by conduction. Heat energy will flow until both materials are the SAME temperature (reached equilibrium) Molecules or atoms collide to each other randomly and during this collision they transfer some part of their energy. With the same way, all energy transferred to the end of the object until it reaches thermal balance. As you can see from the picture, atoms at the bottom of the object first gain energy, their kinetic energies increase, they start to move and vibrate rapidly and collide other atoms and transfer heat. Conduction is commonly seen in solids and a little bit in liquids. In conduction, energy transfer is slow with respect to convection and radiation. Metals are good conductors of heat and electricity.
15
Write / Draw in notebook Examples of Heat Transfer
16
Write in notebook Conduction
Energy (heat) flows throughout materials or across space from WARM objects to COOLER objects
17
Write in notebook Convection
Heat travels through liquids and gases mostly by convection If something heated is rising or circulating in liquid or gas … probably convection.
18
Graphic Organizer You will receive a graphic organizer for the various types of energy Do not cut or fold the organizer
19
Graphic Organizer: Types of Energy
Write the definitions for each type of energy on your graphic organizer in the top box Homework: You will also draw ONE picture to help remind you of the different types of energy in your notebook
20
Write on the graphic organizer Electrical Energy Box
when an electrical source such as a battery or generator is connected in a complete circuit to an electrical device
21
Write on the graphic organizer Thermal Energy Box
when a warmer object is in contact with a cooler one For example… Hot coffee inside a mug warming cold hands in the winter
22
Write on the graphic organizer Electromagnetic Box
Radiation from the sun is energy which travels across distances by electromagnetic waves
23
Video on Discovery Ed “Heat Transmission: Conduction, Convection, and Radiation”
24
Write on the graphic organizer Conduction Box
Heat traveling through solids when two things are touching (pan on a stove burner; heat from burner travels into the metal pan, causing the temperature of the pan to rise) Molecules or atoms collide to each other randomly and during this collision they transfer some part of their energy.
25
Write on the graphic organizer Radiation Box
Heat moving across the space between two objects that are not touching (If you hold your hand over a pan or near an iron to see if it is hot)
26
Write on the graphic organizer Convection Box
Heat traveling through liquids and gases in a circular pattern (convection currents)
27
Glue in notebook Glue your graphic organizer into your notebook
Add entry in your Table of Contents and assign a page number: “Types of Energy graphic organizer” Homework: Draw a picture to represent each form of energy
28
Study Jams
29
Interactive Notebook Review of notebook entries so far: you should have the following activities…… - 6.P.3.2 Electromagnetic Spectrum notes - Electromagnetic Spectrum Foldable - Frayer Diagrams (vocabulary) - Rainbow Activity Station - Ultraviolet Rays and Skin Cancer - Venn Diagram
