2  The “backbone” of Scripture  We are immediately introduced to God (Genesis 1:1) and learn several important characteristics God is Creator (Genesis 1:1) God is omnipotent (Genesis 1:3) God is worthy of praise (Psalm 19:1; 148:1-5) God is caregiver (Genesis 2:7-9) God is lawgiver (2:16-17)

3  The “backbone” of Scripture  We are immediately introduced to God (Genesis 1:1) and learn several important characteristics  The enacting of God’s plan God had a plan of salvation before he created the world (Ephesians 3:11; 1:3-6) Sin marred the good world of God and there were consequences  For the serpent (3:14)  For the woman (3:16)  For the man (3:17-19)  For the Messiah (3:15)

4  Abram is born of the lineage of Shem (Genesis 11:10-27)  God calls Abram out of his homeland and makes a three-fold promise to him (Genesis 12:1-7) I will make of you a great nation (12:2) To your offspring I will give this land (12:7) In you all families of the earth will be blessed (12:3)

6  Israel was being oppressed so God commissions Moses to bring them out (Exodus 1-4)  God brings Israel out with great power (Exodus 7- 14) and they praise him (Exodus 15:1-18)  God cares for his people Water (Exodus 22, 17) Bread from heaven (Exodus 16)

7  Israel was being oppressed so God commissions Moses to bring them out (Exodus 1-4)  God brings Israel out with great power (Exodus 7- 14) and they praise him (Exodus 15:1-18)  God cares for his people  God gives them law (Exodus 19-39, Leviticus)  The people try to go back to Egypt when they see the people of the land (Numbers 14:4) God punishes them by not allowing them to enter the land (Numbers 14:28-30) They would wander the wilderness for 40 years (Numbers 14:33) Only Joshua, Caleb, and those below 20 would enter the land (Numbers 14:30-31)

8  Joshua leads the people into the Promised Land (Joshua, Judges 1) God gives this land to them (Joshua 21:43)

9  Joshua leads the people into the Promised Land (Joshua, Judges 1)  As a nation, they eventually desire a king (1 Samuel 8) God grants their request (1 Samuel 8:22) Israel exists as a nation under Saul, David, and Solomon (1 & 2 Samuel; 1Kings 1-11)

11  Joshua leads the people into the Promised Land (Joshua, Judges 1)  As a nation, they eventually desire a king (1 Samuel 8)  The Kingdom divides  Israel is destroyed God uses Assyria to destroy the 10 Northern Tribes (Israel) because of their idolatry (2 Kings 17:7-23)

13  Christ came to take away the first that he might establish the second (Hebrews 10:8-9) He did this by offering his body (Hebrews 10:10- 14; 9:15-16) This is the covenant prophesied (Hebrews 10:15- 18)

15  Christ came to take away the first that he might establish the second (Hebrews 10:8-9)  The attributes of God  The big picture of the Bible is God and his offering salvation to the world This was his eternal plan (Ephesians 3:11) It is God’s desire that all men be saved and he has done everything in his power to make this possible (John 3:16; 2 Peter 3:9)
