Freshwater A NATURAL RESOURCE
2
What is it? Freshwater is a requirement for all life on earth. It is used by everything that is alive. It also is only 3% of all water on earth! This poses a challenge for everyone. Freshwater is a important part of our economy, and environment. It is our rain, lakes, river, and streams!
3
Issues Not enough to sustain our population More people coming in as we go People are using more for creature comforts More creature comforts used with water
4
How can we fix this? Desalination Plants Use less water when brushing teeth Don’t play around in the shower Only run full loads of dishes and clothes Reuse water for geothermal heating and cooling.
5
Desalination Done through reverse osmosis it turns salt water into fresh water
6
How does it affect our climate? It is our climate. It is rain, humidity, snow, ice, sleet. It is all precipitation. Salt doesn’t evaporate so any rain that comes from the ocean is fresh water.
7
Economics There is a whole industry built up around water. There are water companies that make bottled water, they filter it, there are desalination companies. All of these different companies make their water from a natural resource, Water! Without water not only would humans be dead we wouldn’t have a major industry.
