2  Create a title page for Chapter 3.  Chapter 3 Goals:  How do changes to organisms across time support evolution?  What lines of evidence lead to a theory of evolution?  What are underlying biological mechanisms of evolution?  Update your TOC – don’t forget the date

3 Engage: Unity and Diversity  Start a new header/thread “Unity and Diversity” and data.  Learning Target: I can share my current understanding about the diversity and unity of organisms on Earth.  Update your TOC – don’t forget the date!

4 Engage: Unity and Diversity  Read the Introduction p. 282  Put all your work in your notebook under the heading “Process & Procedure p. 282”  What patterns of unity and diversity do you see in Figure 6.2? List them in your notebook.  How do the similarities and differences affect the way an organism survives in its environment?

5 Engage: Unity and Diversity  Make a list of 10 different organisms (of all types) in your notebook.  Can we see all organisms?  Are all the organisms that have lived on Earth alive today?

6 Engage: Unity and Diversity  Look at the pictures of different animals around the room. Add them to your list.  Let’s create a list on the board...

7 Engage: Unity and Diversity  Make a list of 10 similarities that these organisms share.  What are some characteristics that organisms share?  Can you think of something that a plant and an animal would have in common?  Make a list of 10 differences between these organisms.  What are some characteristics that distinguish organisms?

8 Engage: Unity and Diversity  Let’s list as many similarities and differences as we can on the board…  Group your organisms by similarities and differences.  Complete R&C #1-3 on page 283. (Make sure you write a header and page number first.)
