How I got here: I started my own family tree, I went on a course, I decided to teach the subject myself Then I began to research other people’s trees for them (better than my name).

5. So, WHAT DOES A GENEALOGIST DO? Traces trees for clients, goes deeper – individual persons, occupational histories places histories, teach courses at various levels, trace lost friends or relatives,

8. WHY STUDY YOUR FAMILY HISTORY? My reason is that as a trained social historian I am interested in the lives of ‘ordinary’ people and how they respond to those in ‘power’.
