Anything built by a theatre company that can be used in more than 1 production - -- it is usually stored after a show (strike) and pulled for future productions.

Lumber The most common types used in our dept are: –1X4 –2X4 –4X4 –Luan - sheet lumber 4X8 very thin used on flats –Plywood - sheet lumber 4X8 in 1/4”,1/2” or 3/4” thickness used on platforms –Masonite - sheet lumber 4X8 thin - used on platforms Metal and Plastic - not used in our shop, but are used in professional theatre occasionally

Types of Joints Butt Joint - Simplist and weakest type of wood joint to make. Miter Joint - more “finished” look - cuts at a 45 degree angle to create a 90 degree corner.

Grades of Lumber A - clear and strong; most expensive B - almost clear C - few tight knots D - more knots, less quality, least expensive
