1 2 nd Semester/Famo us Physicists Wednesday, January 6, 2016

2 Wednesday, 1/5 Welcome Back!  We have new students and a new seating chart. Please check the seating chart before sitting down (7 th Period only)  Pick up a handout and a weekly warm-up sheet from the Physics bin  Complete the reflection sheet. I will stamp your warm-up sheet for your weekly warm-up grade and you will turn in your reflection today. Upcoming dates:  Friday, 1/8 – Historical and contemporary scientist project due  Thursday, 1/14 – Work and energy quiz  Monday, 1/18 – Martin Luther King Holiday  Thursday, 1/21 – Work, power, energy quiz  Thursday, 1/21 – review due when the late bell rings.  Monday, 1/25 – Work, power, energy test  Monday, 1/25 – last day to turn in any missing assignments for work, power, energy unit.  See my website for additional important dates.

3 Course Review  Review the 2 nd semester syllabus, class room norms, and lab safety contract. This is a class set…please do not write on them.  If you want your own they can be found on my web page under ‘Physics resources’  After reviewing the documents, complete the form on my webpage (can be found under today’s resources).

4 Respond to the following on the Cool down side of your warm-up sheet: 1. What would your life be like if you did not have a cell phone? 2. What role did science play in the creation of your cell phone? 3. The terms science and technology are very broad. How do we make meaning of the world around us and use it to make discoveries that impact our every day lives? Historical and Contemporary Scientists Contributions

6 Historical and Contemporary Scientists Project  Part 1  Research your assigned scientist, with a partner, and complete the summary sheet for your scientist. This part of the assignment is 50% of your project grade  Part 2 – next class period  Gallery walk of projects  Pick ten scientists and write five facts you find interesting about the scientists.  This is the individual piece of the project and is worth 50% of your grade.  Part 3 – next class period  Before turning in your project you will paper clip your part two to the part one completed by you and your partner
