25 October 2005A. Ciocio - SCTSG1 Type II/III Cables and PP1 Status & Plan

25 October 2005A. Ciocio - SCTSG2 Type II/III Cables Double harness ordered from Ineo Work on splicing started in August (Thurmelec) Installation of connectors on the PP3 end at the factory –Need to provide exact length for both types and PP3 connectors Two Contracts first to produce all the harnesses and then to install the connectors Production of harness started – 175 double harnesses produced (for Barrel) doing Endcap now Cables with PP3 connectors 3 weeks around – between December and March

25 October 2005A. Ciocio - SCTSG3 Cont’d Testing –Use dummy PP1 with some load to test that the splice didn’t get damaged after installation –JST and FCI connectors very delicate – better to test at the PP3 end Splice is verified at the company Need QA going on regularly during production (Saverio D’Auria just joined) –Previous visits by Pepe B. Maarit W. and Laurent Gillain(CERN purchasing) quite satisfactory – mostly looking at the splicing –http://pcppe01.cern.ch:8081/jwhite/www/pics/Cable_Pics/2/http://pcppe01.cern.ch:8081/jwhite/www/pics/Cable_Pics/2/ –Recent visit (Pepe, Maarit, Saverio) mostly on strip back length

25 October 2005A. Ciocio - SCTSG4 PP1 Test of first 5 samples (double harness) show a problem with keeping JST and FCI connectors in place and lack of consistency in the difference between the 2 strips back lengths Requirement of 2mm difference in strip back lengths of the power lines and thinner lines (JST – extra length – confirmed by David) Pepe, Maarit and Saverio visited Thermelec last week and discussed this issue Company agreed to respect a minimum and will try to keep it between 0 and 2mm for future production Company will check lengths of current batch (rework =they throw the connector hood and recut the wires) –Guessing around 50% of the harnesses in the first batch have > 2 mm length difference (but it’s maller than the samples) –We’ll need to decide how to proceed and how many to have fixed –Need to understand margin in the length difference There are also designs for Clips to keep the cables in place (Tony). Production of the mould started - finished by end of the year

25 October 2005A. Ciocio - SCTSG5 PP1 connection
6
25 October 2005A. Ciocio - SCTSG6 PP1 (cont’d) To be sure that the existing strip lengths are correct, we'd need to assemble two cables of each of the three strip lengths together with a real PPB1 and clamp Find out about order of installation Different strips back lengths harness brought back from company in last visit - we’ll try them
7
25 October 2005A. Ciocio - SCTSG7 Extra length in sector 9 TC are asking us to make our type II cables longer in one sector (by 5 m), so that the thinner cables continue through a difficult region Find limits on voltage drop that we can tolerate, translated into an upper limit on the length of type II (in progress Pippa Heinz et al) see Pippa’s talk
8
25 October 2005A. Ciocio - SCTSG8 DPP1 in cryostat checked the dummy PPB1 in the cryostat bore (with Andy)
9
25 October 2005A. Ciocio - SCTSG9 Plan Provide lengths (done) and labels for harnesses for first batch of cables (for sector 5) so that the connectors can start to be placed (~200 cables) (soon we hope) Work out lengths (and provide them) for future production Connectors will be delivered end of November but we are hoping to get a small amount delivered sooner so that we can have the 200 mentioned above built. Prepare for testing Work on QA and clarify lengths of strip back with company
