6 State’s Concerns 1)Process not capable of delivering “near term projects” Studies evaluating Water Resource projects from authorization to completion: - 1971 = 17.9 Years (U.S. House) - 1977 = 24.4 years (Corps of Engineers) - 1978 = 30.9 years (GAO) Current estimates > 40 years 2) Acquiring approximately $5 Billion through Corps budget in next 5 years not possible. - $19 M for FY11 - Everglades project approx. ($250 M per year) -20 years?

7 State’s Solutions Prioritize projects Top 5 : Myrtle Grove, White’s Ditch, Bayou Lafourche, Convey Atchafalaya Water to Northern Terrebonne Marshes, Barataria Basin Barrier Shoreline Evaluate other avenues of implementation Utilize interagency group with potential of incorporating multiple budgets. Break into a series of sub-programs implemented by various agencies Investigate other funding sources Integration of HPS Mitigation Funds Securitize GOMESA Funds Evaluate all ongoing programs CIAP CWPPRA
