SOIS Application Support Service WG and SOIS Plug-and-Play BoF Spring 2008 Report
2
Goals for the Week Complete Plug-and-Play Concept Paper Review feedback from implementations of Red Books Review preliminary SIS-AMS mapping onto SOIS and finalise SIS-AMS Red Book Issue 2 Review Packet Store Service Definition, 1 st draft of Red Book
3
Message Transfer Service All RID dispositions on Red Book integrated into SIS AMS Red Book, Issue 1.1 December 2007 (JPL, APL, GSFC, ESA and BNSC/SciSys) Prototyping –ESA/SciSys prototyping AMS profile on SOIS – feedback on profile and Red Book –APL prototyping AMS profile on VxWorks message queues (SOIS- compliant) – feedback on profile and Red Book AMS Red Book Issue 2 to be issued now Known issues – none Proposed resolution – –Prototyping during 2008 –Draft MTS Red Book by Fall 2008 meeting: SOIS Service Interface (will be derived from AMS Service Interface) and recommending profile of AMS protocol as one of a number of protocols that can be used
4
File Services NRL/DesignNet feedback that File Access Service is well-defined Prototyping –ESA/SciSys have prototype of File Access and Management Services –NRL/DesignNet prototyped File Access Service and will now prototype File Management Service Known issues – –Add recommendation of protocols to be used, e.g. NFS and CFDP Proposed resolution – –Identification of protocols & prototyping of File Services for review Fall 2008
5
Packet Store Service Service definition and list of primitives presented by ESA and refined during meeting (BNSC/SciSys, ESA and NRL/DesignNet) Prototyping –None but many existing, proprietary implementations! Known issues – none Proposed resolution – –Add to File Services Red Book and prototyping for review Fall 2008
6
Time Access Service NRL/DesignNet feedback that service is well- defined Prototyping –ESA/SciSys has one prototype –NRL/DesignNet has second prototype Second prototype so can promoted to Blue Book Known issues – none Proposed resolution – –Ready for promotion to Blue Book when SOIS books are promoted
7
Device Access Service No further feedback Prototyping –ESA/SciSys has one prototype –Second still to be identified Known issues – second prototype required before can propose to be promoted to Blue Book Proposed resolution – –Identify second prototype (UC-Colorado?)
8
Device Data Pooling Service No further feedback Prototyping –ESA/SciSys has one prototype –Second still to be identified Known issues – second prototype required before can propose to be promoted to Blue Book Proposed resolution – –Identify second prototype (UC-Colorado?)
9
SOIS Plug-and-Play BoF Attendance from NRL (DesignNet), NASA (GSFC & UC-Colorado), ESA and BNSC (SciSys) Review of Use Cases and existing Plug-and-Play technologies Walked through 1553, Wireless and SpaceWire Issues raised – –Different levels of support by differing subnetworks need to be embraced –Uniquely identifying roaming devices not addressed yet –Determining physical properties of individual devices, e.g. orientation of thruster, not captured –Architecture needs refining to embrace these Resolution –Regular teleconferences (starting on 1 st April 2008) –Document detailed walk-through of different subnetworks (SpaceWire, 1553, BlueTooth, 802.11, Serial, 1-wire, USB) assigned, to be produced by 30 th April 2008 –Followed by refinement of architecture to take account of these –All to be captured in second draft of Concept Paper by 31 st May 2008 (BNSC lead) for BoF review
10
Device Enumeration Service Concept is dynamic discovery of capability of devices following device discovery, linked to Device Discovery and Device Virtualisation Services –Part of Plug-and-Play effort –USB, Wireless, SpaceWire and IEEE 1451 standards to be used as starting point Prototyping –ESA/SciSys will prototype this service in conjunction with architecture refinement in Concept Paper Known issues – none Proposed resolution – –Prototyping during 2008 –Draft Red Book by Fall 2008 meeting
11
Device Virtualisation Service Addressed as part of Plug-and-Play BoF Prototyping –ESA/SciSys will prototype this service and use as a basis for defining concept –ETSI SSDHI standard to be used as starting point for classification of devices Known issues – none Proposed resolution – –Prototyping during 2008 –Draft Red Book by Fall 2008 meeting
12
Plan of Work for Next Inter-Plenary Continued prototyping of Services Completion of MTS Red Book, based on prototyping of AMS on SOIS Refinement of SOIS Plug-and-Play Concept Paper Drafting of Packet Store Services Red Book Drafting of Device Virtualisation Service Red Book Drafting of Device Enumeration Service Red Book
13
Any Issues Arising A very successful and productive meeting New members –Ramon Krosley (NRL/DesignNet) –Sebastian Kuzminsky and Shea Williams (Uni. Of Colorado) Ramon Krosley nominated as Deputy Chair for ASS WG Protocols need clearly identifying Capture and promote all prototyping efforts (ESA, BNSC, NRL, APL identified so far, UC-Colorad to come?) Security?
