“Using Rhetoric TV Ads” Objective: To identify how advertisements persuade an audience, and to understand how rhetorical appeals are formed through the use of advertising techniques. – Graphic Organizer – Written response

Quickwrite Pretend you have to sell your backpack to the students in your group. Use the following appeals to persuade them: – Ethos: Why are you the authority on this backpack? Why should they believe you? – Pathos: What emotions can you evoke to sell them your backpack? (guilt, joy) – Logos: What facts can be used to sell your backpack? What is true about your backpack?

Paragraph Write a well-developed paragraph explaining the various appeals found in one of the advertisements to persuade a target audience. Cite evidence from the ad, identify the appeal, and explain how it is persuading the target audience.
