5 Course Description:  A variety of topics, drawn from each of the three Pitakas and their respective commentaries  The determination will based on consultation between the lecturer and the students.  Students should submit a written survey of at least three main points from each Pitaka.

6 Course Title/Objectives: Selected Works in Buddhist Scriptures 1. Students are able to have knowledge of the doctrines in the three Pitakas. 2. Students are able to have knowledge of the doctrines in the commentaries and later Buddhist texts. 3. Students are able to have proper and deep understanding of the Buddhist Scriptures.

7 Assignment:  Student are required to submit one written assignment (one group per one paper) of at least one main topics selected from each Pitaka which is chosen from the scope of subject provided.  Other topics other than those prescribed, students must receive prior approval from the lecturer.  The assignment must be sent within April 25, 2016 (last week of the course work).  For those students with late submission, the score will be deducted based on the instructor’s discretion.

8 Assignment: Writing Criteria  The work must consists of three main parts: introduction (Question), body (data collection and analysis), and conclusion (answer). Not less than 5,000 words in total.  The academic references (footnotes) must be provided adequacy and accurately according to the IBSC’s format.

9 Student Presentation:  Group presentation  Same topic as the assignment  Using Power Point Presentation  90 minutes each group (approx.)  30 minutes for Q/A session made by the class  Comments and advice by lecturer  Starting from March 9 to April 11
